Although Bolton appears to have so far escaped the snow which is covering much of the North of the country, 13 schools in the area have closed.
Some schools in Bolton had already made the decision, following the weather warnings issued yesterday which forecast heavy snow and predicted widespread disruption on the roads. Others made their decision first thing today.

Schools are not the only victims of the weather.
Snow kept the RSPCA mobile clinic in the garage on Tuesday, leading to Bolton branch administrator Kathy Kay to apologise to pet owners on the Johnson Fold estate. The clinic has now been re-arranged for January 13, from 10am to 2pm.
Last night’s Light Up a Life service, to switch on lights in memory of loved ones at Bolton Hospice, was also cancelled because of the weather.
However, a service will go ahead as planned on December 10 at Bolton Parish Church, to turn on the lights situated there.
