THREE Pigeons pulled off the shock of the round in the Open Cup when they hammered Vulcan from two divisions above them in the Bolton Sunday League.

The Second Division side stormed to a 4-0 victory to book their place in the third round.

The game between Merehall and Parkland went to form with First Division Merehall easing past their Second Division opponents with a 4-0 victory in which Leech scored twice and Travers and Higson also scored.

Tansey Green, flying high in the Second Division, gave high-flying Premier League opponents Smokies Farnworth a tough game in which they eventually went down 4-2, Jimmy Davis scoring twice and Mitchell and Shamwell getting the others for the winners.

First Division high-flyers Hall i’th’ Wood beat Tempest Arms from the Second Division 4-2, and Fire & Ice won an all-Second Division tie against Howcroft 5-3.

Scotts Bar hammered Darcy Lever 8-0 in another all-Second Division game in which Mick Lovington scored four goals.

Great Lever Queen Lizzy got their first win of the season with a 4-0 victory over lowly Second Division side Jolly Ploughman B, Pollitt and Kinsella scoring twice.

There were also wins for Stumble Inn against Ladybridge, Sams Bar against Bromley Cross and Johnson Fold against Yew Tree.
