BOLTON Under-15s suffered their first Northern Merit League setback of the season when they went down 2-1 to West Lancashire on Saturday.
They looked to be heading for their third straight win in the competition after making a dream start with a Ryan Kikabhai (Rivington) goal after just four minutes.
But that advantage was quickly wiped out when the home side hit back to level the scores midway through the first half to send the sides in all square at the break, before edging ahead with a second goal 15 minutes after the restart.
Bolton had their chances to equalise late in the game with Connor Loftus (Rivington) and Jack Fairbrother (St Joseph’s) both having chances cleared off the line.
Kikabhai also came close in the dying seconds but the keeper saved well to deny Bolton a share of the spoils.
Bury U15s are out of the Greater Manchester Schools’ County Cup after going down 5-2 to Wigan in their first round clash at Derby High School.
They trailed 2-0 at the break before the visitors added another three to their tally after the restart for an unassailable 5-0 lead.
Bury hit back in the latter stages of the game and grabbed a couple of late consolation strikes through George Powell (Castlebrook) and Danny Siddel (Prestwich) to make the scoreline a little more respectable.
Bury U14s were also disappointed after going down 2-0 to Salford in a challenge match at Broughton.
Ryan Ledson and George Leigh were on target for the home side either side of the break.
