POLICE will be pulling out all the stops to protect people visiting Manchester this Christmas.
As thousands of people will be visiting the city over the next few weeks Greater Manchester Police will be providing a high profile presence.
Operation Sleigh, which will run until the beginning of January, will include the use of headcams, mounted police, dog handlers, undercover officers and officers on pedal cycles.
The operation will also include a number of “days of action” targeting criminals and criminal activity such as theft of cars, robbery, anti-social behaviour, begging and alcohol-related crime, including drink driving and violence.
Crime prevention material will be given out, including leaflets, lollipops, safety wallets and purse bells.
Chief Inspector for Manchester city centre, Chris Hill, said: “Our additional presence is not just to keep criminals off the streets, but it is also to offer reassurance. Our biggest priority is to provide a secure environment so that all our visitors, residents and workers can enjoy a secure and happy time.”
