STUDENT Laura Jones is hoping to prove that she is more than just a pretty face.
The 19-year-old has made it into the top 100 of the Miss Student UK competition from thousands of entrants across the country.
Laura, of Belgrave Crescent, Horwich, is currently ranked 44th overall, but number one in her university and number three in the Manchester region, a position which would see her qualify for the final.
She is in the first year of her primary education course at Manchester Metropolitan University, and wants to be a primary school teacher.
Laura said: “I’ve never been judged on myself before, but if I just be myself then I can’t really go wrong.”
The first round of the contest sees entrants campaigning for themselves and trying to win public votes via the competition’s website.
Supporters can look at pictures and personal profiles of all the entrants on-line.
If Laura is successful, she will progress to the next stage, in which she has to impress judges with talent performances, presentations and charity work.
