A NURSE will today find out if she has won an award, recognising her work with patients with learning difficulties.

Jainab Desai works as Bolton Primary Care Trust’s nurse specialist for people with learning disabilities at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

She was nominated for the Person of the Year Award in the People of the Year Human Rights Awards 2008, run by the Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitaion (RADAR) by her colleague Vicky Welsby.

The award is given to an individual who has demonstrated “an unswerving commitment to the furtherance of human and civil rights of disabled people”.

She is on a shortlist with nine others for the award, to be announced at a ceremony with the Mayor of London Boris Johnson and comedian Jeremy Hardy, later today.

Ms Desai, who has worked at the Royal Bolton Hospital since November 2006, said: “I was really surprised and honoured to be shortlisted.

“My job is all about how we can improve services for people with learning disabilities and helping them access services, and by raising the profile of this work, the award nomination will help with that.”
