MATTY Taylor is delighted to be back to his goalscoring best after a ‘nightmare’ start to the season.

The Wanderers midfielder grabbed his third goal of an injury-hit campaign against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The former Portsmouth wideman was ruled out for five games after breaking his toe in the second match of the season at Newcastle at St James’ Park.

But he has put his injury setback behind him and is now producing his best form in a Bolton shirt since his £3.5million move from the south coast in January.

“I had a bit of a stop-start season with injury after breaking my toe,” said Taylor.

“That kept me out for six weeks which was a bit of a pain. I missed four or five league games which was a nightmare because I was just starting to get back into it. But it’s nice to come back now and start putting the ball into the back of the net.

“I’m just happy to be playing. It’s nice to score but it doesn’t matter who scores the goals as long as the team is winning.

“Scoring goals and playing well breeds confidence throughout the team, so it’s not a bad thing that I’ve been sticking them away lately and long may it continue.”

Taylor’s superbly-taken strike at the Riverside helped in-form Wanderers seal a third win in four games.

And his goal threat and dangerous set-piece delivery have made him an invaluable part of Gary Megson’s plans.

But Taylor, who turned 27 on Thursday, has distanced himself from a possible England call-up, preferring, instead, to focus on matters at the Reebok as the 12th-placed club, who travel to Sunderland this afternoon look to continue their climb up the Premier League table.

He said: “All I’m concentrating on is playing well for Bolton – nothing else matters – and that will continue for the rest of my career.

“If we carry on doing well collectively then, personally, I’ll be happy as well.

“If anything else came along that would be great, but it’s not something I’m thinking about before I go to bed at night.”
