WANDERERS fans are celebrating today after learning the price of match-day tickets has been cut by £1.

Whites chiefs made the move to reflect the Government’s decision to slash the rate of VAT to 15 per cent.

Merchandise at the club’s store will also be reduced, with discounts being applied at the till.

Season ticket holders will also benefit from the cut when they renew for the 2009/10 season, with a reduced price.

Helen Wood, Wanderers’ head of communications, said: “The club always strives to make football affordable for our fans. We reduced our season ticket prices in the summer and have laid on free travel for five away fixtures already this campaign.

“We, therefore, also felt it was appropriate to go above and beyond the 2.5 per cent VAT reduction by rounding the figure up and discounting match-day prices by £1 across the board.”

Match-day catering prices will also be reduced, although there is no net impact on alcoholic products due to an increase in duty to apply from the same date as the VAT cut, December 1.

The reduced match-day prices will come into effect for the Portsmouth home fixture on Saturday, December 20, as the tickets for the Chelsea game on December 6 are already on sale.
