FABRICE Muamba is confident he can add goals to his game.

The midfield star was outstanding in Wanderers’ 3-1 win against Middlesbrough, earning praise from manager Gary Megson for his all-action display.

But he missed two great chances on Teesside to open his Reebok account since his £5million summer move from Birmingham.

Muamba, dubbed the new Patrick Vieira, was also guilty of a terrible miss against Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier this season.

The combative 20-year-old is determined to end his goal drought – and believes it is only a matter of time before he does.

“If I’d taken the chance against Manchester United and scored two at the weekend then that would’ve been three goals for the season,” he said, ahead of Bolton’s trip to Sunderland.

“But I don’t care who scores the goals as long as we win. I don’t feel under any pressure. I’m sure my chance will come and I’ll put it in.

“I’m just happy with the way I am playing. I’m confident and believe in myself and I just want to keep playing my game.

“It’s a long season and I’m sure the chances will carry on coming because we’re scoring more goals now.

“We’re not just winning 1-0 - we scored three and maybe should’ve had four or five at the weekend.”

Megson drew parallels between the former Arsenal trainee to Vieira following another fine display in the heart of midfield at the weekend.

Comparisons with the Frenchman are nothing new for Muamba following his Gunners upbringing.

But the England Under-21 star is keen to prove he is his own man.

“I learned a lot from Patrick and I spoke to him a lot when I was at Arsenal,” said. “You can learn a lot from one of the best central midfielders of his time and I took on board a lot of what he told me.

“But you can never base your game on one person. You collect different opinions and ideas from other players but then you must mix it with what you do and be your own man.”
