UNITED Utilities has reported an interim profit of £369 million for the half year up to the end of September.

It represents a six per cent rise on last year’s half year figures.

The company said will be investing almost as much again in improving water and waste water systems throughout the region.

The firm, which is in charge of water and electricity supplies, is pledging to invest a record £353 million in improving its service.

It recently submitted its draft plans to Ofwat for 2010-2015 which included dealing with challenges such as reducing the company’s carbon footprint and protecting treatment works against flooding.

It also aims to improve its understanding of flood risks and building climate change impact into future water resource plans.
