TODAY www.theboltonnews.co.uk brings you a heart-warming tale of human kindness.
A few weeks ago we made a video report about an abandoned Yorkshire Terrier found tied to a tree with two empty food bowls beside him in Firwood Fold, Bolton.
The dog was taken to Bolton Destitute Animal Shelter where he was cared for by staff.
Shelter boss Karen Rickards told us all about the dog — named Whiskey by shelter workers..
His future looked bleak, but within hours of hearing about tiny Whiskey's plight Derek Entwistle knew he wanted to help him.
And when Derek saw the little Yorkie he knew he wanted to take the dog home and was delighted when he was chosen as his new owner. Whiskey is now called Oscar and living a life of luxury with Mr Entwistle, aged 66, and his 67-year-old wife Jean.
"As soon as I saw him I wanted him to be my dog," said life-long dog owner Derek.
Oscar, thought to be about five-years-old, needs to put weight on and Derek is currently trying him with different food to find out what he likes.
Whiskey is just one of many unwanted animals cared for by volunteers at the Northolt Drive shelter until new homes can be found for them.
