Members of Bolton’s Local Transport Group have already been asked to consider a number of options for changing the scheme.
25 YEARS AGO, From the Evening News, November 28, 1983 Coronation Street may be responsible for putting off thousands of girls from a secure career in the clothing industry, it was claimed today. “The industrial relations atmosphere of Mike Baldwin's factory is abysmal,” said the industry’s training board chief, John Dearden.
50 YEARS AGO, From the Evening News, November 27, 1958 Forty-one wagons became detached from a Carnforth-Manchester goods train between Chanters and Howe Bridge, Atherton, to-day, thundered down an incline for half a mile, and then crashed into a stationary Wigan to Manchester passenger train.
Three of the 30 passengers in the train were slightly injured, but they did not go to hospital. The guard was taken to Leigh Infirmary with leg injuries.
100 YEARS AGO From the Evening News November 27, 1908 The members of the Women’s Social and Political Union are enjoying this story. Mrs. Pankhurst and the other suffragists in prison (like all other prisoners) have received a pamphlet or tract from some philanthropic society. The first sentence runs: “No doubt you are in your present position owing to drink.”
