WANDERERS defender Gary Cahill is more used to helping keep clean sheets than splattering them with paint — but that is exactly what he was asked to do on a recent visit to a Horwich youth club.
The former England Under-21 star helped put the finishing touches to refurbishments at Fox Street Youth Club, which received £4,000 from the Premier League’s Creating Chances initiative towards the work.
Money donated will go some way to providing specialist workshops on drug and alcohol awareness, sexual health information and advice on healthy eating and exercise.
Coffee evenings, bingo classes and yoga sessions are also being planned to help build up relationships between the youngsters who use the facilities and older generations from the neighbourhood.
Speaking on the night, Cahill praised the work currently being done at Fox Street.
He said: “It’s great that the kids can come to places like this and hang out. It keeps them out of trouble when they would otherwise have nothing to do and be walking around the streets.”
