AMIR Khan wants to make his long awaited USA debut next year.

The Bolton boxer arrived back home this week from Los Anegles where he has been training with new coach Freddie Roach for his return to the ring against Oisin Fagan, at London’s ExCel Arena on Saturday, December 6.

It will be the lightweight’s first fight since his sensational first round defeat to Colombian Breidis Prescott in September, but Khan is already looking ahead to future fights and wants to make his ring entrance in America.

Khan, pictured, has been training with Manny Pacquiao, another of Roach’s pupils, who steps into the ring in Las Vegas against Oscar de lay Hoya on the same night as Khan fights.

“I want to fight in the USA,” said Khan. “There are many fighters who have done that after fighting in England for so many years, but I want to start my career in the USA very young. So maybe next year, early next year I’ll get the chance.

“I think things happen for a reason. I had my first defeat. It’s just one of those things. I’m not going to lose again. I’m going to train harder, be more smart and be more patient in the fight and not go rushing in there against a guy who can hit hard, who is a banger.

“Things happen for a reason. I went to LA and if I hadn’t lost, I wouldn’t have gone there. I’m fixing my mistakes and I’m going to come back stronger.”

He says the improvements that he’s received while training will make him a better fighter in his career and gives him a lot of confidence.

“I’m a champion. I want to fight the guys who beat me, just like the amateur days,” he added, referring to a rematch with Prescott.

“I got beat in the finals of the Olympic games. I came back and beat the guy. I want that fight. I have to fight him and in the future it will be a big fight.”

Meanwhile, Floyd Mayweather Sr has warned Ricky Hatton he must quit drinking between fights if he has any hope of defeating boxers of the calibre of Oscar De La Hoya or his son, Floyd Jr.

Hatton, who on Saturday night announced his return to form with a decisive 11th round stoppage of light-welterweight rival Paulie Malignaggi, wants a showdown with De La Hoya or Pacquiao next year at Wembley Stadium and has also spoken of wanting a rematch with the now retired Mayweather Jr – the only fighter to have defeated the ‘Hitman’ in 46 professional fights.

But Hatton’s new trainer Mayweather Sr believes that the 30-year-old must end his renowned fondness for drinking sessions and fast food between fights if he is to have a hope of competing at the top level against the likes of his former charge De La Hoya and his estranged son.

“It’s something I’m very concerned about,” Mayweather Sr said when asked about Hatton’s lifestyle.

“I told him you can forget about whupping those kind of guys if you’re going to continue that kind of life, drinking and Ricky Fatton and all that’.

“It’s very simple. He needs to do this to save his career, however much time he has left.”
