FACEBOOK, yoga, eating your five-a-day and baking could make you happier.
That is some of the advice being offered under a new initiative set up to boost people’s mental health and well-being in Bolton.
Healthy Heads is the name of the new scheme which will see health experts going out and about offering advice and support.
And the service is being offered free to organisations across the town.
Those behind the initiative want schools, businesses and community groups to take advantage of Healthy Heads and increase happiness levels among staff, helping to improve their mental health in the process.
Jayne Wood, health improvement specialist, believes there is a lot to be gained from focusing on mental health.
She said: “A place that supports its people to be happy and looks after their mental well-being will see the benefits.
“Happy people are more productive, take less time off work and are less likely to be ill.
“They are less likely to commit crimes and more likely to achieve in education and have positive aspirations for themselves and their neighbourhoods.”
She said getting involved in creative activities like baking or joining social networking websites can help keep people happy — and healthy.
Healthy Heads is being run by the town’s public health staff and is available to any venue where people work, study or spend time together.
Anyone who is interested in using Healthy Heads in their organisation should contact Jayne Wood by emailing jayne.wood @bolton.nhs.uk
