DOBBIES B’s good run of form continued with a 2-0 victory over Bay Mare Strollers to maintain their lead at the top of Division One.
Played on a heavy pitch, the wind and rain made it an awful day to play football and there was not much between the two teams until Gary Davenport’s mis-hit shot flew into the top corner.
The Strollers pushed forward looking for the equaliser, but they left some gaps in their defence and the chances flowed for both sides, including an Andy Morris shot which struck Dobbies’ bar.
No matter how hard they tried, Strollers could not score the goal they needed and were hit on the break with a sucker punch late on, Keith Ingram slotting home Dobbies’ second to seal victory.
Peake Fitness remain a close second, just two points behind the leaders, after thumping Dobbies C 6-0 with a Reynolds hat-trick and one each from O’Hagan, Naylor and Keegan.
The score could have been even worse for Dobbies had Roy Naylor taken just a few of the many chances Peake created.
In Division Two, Golborne Sports Club Vets are in third after a 2-1 victory over Bromley Cross.
Steve Abbott scored twice and the result leaves them just three points off the top.
VASA put a little daylight between themselves and the relegation zone after thrashing the bottom team, The Pineapple, 7-0.
Daniel Bertenshaw’s hat-trick did most of the damage and he was ably assisted by two goals from Pete Bamber and one each from Simon Rothey and Ray Harris.
In Division Three, The Quadrant moved to the top of the table after a 4-2 win against close rivals Ainsworth B.
A Mickey Vandon hat-trick and one from Ian Farrell did most of the damage, but Ainsworth were left thinking they should have got something from the game.
Chorlton Vets are up to third as they ran out narrow 1-0 winners over the White Horse who are propping up the three divisions.
A Noel Coleman goal was the only difference between the two teams as the White Horse put in a performance that belied their position in the league.
Harwood Grey Mare secured three valuable points that moved them into the middle of the division after edging a seven-goal thriller 4-3 against the Top Bull.
Goals from Gibson, Harrison and Mayhew for the Top Bull were cancelled out by a Darren Hodkinson hat-trick and one from Nigel Smith for Harwood.
