THE parents of a girl who died after arsonists struck at her grandparents’ home have vowed to grant her biggest wish — by having another baby.
Alana Mian, aged four, dreamed of having a little brother or sister and often spoke of her hopes to her mother, Saima, and father, Fahad.
Tragically, the youngster died, along with her grandmother, Hameeda Begum, when a massive fire ripped through her grandparent’s home in Little Holme Walk, Great Lever, in June.
Mrs Mian, aged 24, who was visiting her parents at the time of the attack, suffered serious injuries, but is now back home in Australia following a long spell in hospital.
There, she is gradually starting to rebuild her life with her husband.
Mr Mian, aged 30, who works as an IT salesman, said: “Saima is continuing her medical treatment here and we are taking things really slowly.
“We know that we need to move on, but we haven’t accepted that we need to let go yet.
“We both get by on a day-to-day basis by finding things to distract us from thinking about what happened. Alana’s biggest wish was to have a baby brother or sister, so we are working on granting that wish.”
Police are still investigating the blaze, which happened on July 23.
A burning wheelie bin was pushed up against the front door of the house.
The fire was discovered by Mrs Begum’s husband, Mumtaz Chishti, who ran to get help and was unable to get back into the house when he returned because of the intensity of the fire.
Mrs Begum, Mrs Mian and Alana were upstairs and unable to escape.
Fire crews desperately tried to save them, but Mrs Begum died shortly after the fire. Alana died after a six-week fight for life.
Firefighter Steve Morris, who battled through the flames in a bid to rescue the family, suffered 50 per cent burns and is slowly recovering from his injuries at Wythenshawe Hospital’s Specialist Burns Unit.
A 14-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man arrested in connection with the fire in July have been re-bailed this week until December 2.
Three people arrested for witness intimidation in relation to the incident have had their bail extended until December 3.
