McFly MEN Arena Victoria Grime writes: Danny Jones was back on his home turf with his “cheeky chappy” fellow bandmates — and Manchester loved them.

Especially the ladies. Tom Jones apparently used to have a problem with flying knickers from over-enthusiastic members of the audience, but on Saturday it was bras that were being slung on to the stage.

In fact, Dougie, the bass player, used several to decorate his microphone as the crowd bounced along to the band’s top hits, like Obviously and Room On The Third Floor.

During the three and a half years the pop-rock quartet — including Our Danny from Bromley Cross — have been together they have built up a big fan base of all ages and genders. There were certainly many screaming and dancing for the boys as part of their Radio:ACTIVE tour.

It was a great atmosphere and, as an added treat, the official video for the Comic Relief Single was filmed, making the audience extras, much to their delight.

Half-way through, there were gasps as the band were suspended above the audience on a glass-bottomed platform, playing their instruments. This platform then landed in the middle of the arena on a smaller stage, where they filmed the video.

There’s little doubt that it will be as big a hit as their 2005 Comic Relief Single, All About You.

Danny and Tom both announced they were suffering from colds, but this certainly didn’t stop them from giving a top performance.
