This group are ready for a trip to the seaside sometime after the end of the Second World War.
The picture was brought in to the office by Ben McCreary and it features some of his family who worked at the Magee Marshall brewery during and just after the war.
There is no date on this one but Ben has another picture that was taken in 1947 and he believes this could be older.
I wonder if they had seaside “chara-bang” trips to the seaside in 1946, so soon after the war ended? Maybe readers can tell me?
Ben’s mother, Elsie McCreary is on the front row, far right, seated. His aunt, Louisa Morton, is on the far right of the back row and aunt Olive Morton is fourth from the right on the back row.
The word was “charabanc”of course — but didn’t everyone pronounce it “chara-bang”?
