IT has been quite a year for Bolton teenage tennis ace George Morgan who is now in line for a prestigious LTA award.
The 15-year-old, who at 6ft 2in towers over most of his opponents, is one of four players to be short listed for the title male junior player of the year Morgan burst on the scene last December when he won the under-14s’ singles title at the Orange Bowl in Florida, an event regarded as the unofficial world championship for his age group.
He also began playing on the ITF junior circuit reaching a singles semi-final in Wellington and two doubles finals in Christchurch and Nottingham.
Domestic success also came his way after winning the under-16s’ Grand Prix Master title and claiming the Junior National Championship doubles crown with Nick Jones at the same age group.
He also represented Great Britain at the Junior Davis Cup in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and, if he does win the award, he will follow in the footsteps of another Lancashire player Dan Cox who won the title last year.
The awards will be presented at the LTA National Training Centre in Roehampton on December 11.
