FIVE-A-SIDE football teams will be tackling the police today, when they compete for the annual Bolton Community Challenge Cup.
Police officers are challenging local teams to a tournament, in a bid to increase respect between the area’s different communities.
Ten teams have signed up to take part including Muslim, Hindu and Somali groups, as well as officers from the Bolton Central Neighbourhood Policing Team.
The event is taking place from noon at Bolton Lads and Girls Club in Spa Road, Bolton.
The Community Challenge Cup, now in its fourth year, also raises money for Bolton Hospice through the raffle of prizes donated by local groups and businesses.
More than 100 prizes have been donated this year including a Nintendo Wii, a BMX bike, a Christian Dior ladies gift set worth £350, various weekend breaks offers and signed memorabilia from Bolton Wanderers, Manchester United, Ricky Hatton and Amir Khan.
In the past three years, the raffle has raised over £5,000 for the Hospice. Ticket sales have brought in more than £4,500.
Organiser PC Robert Varley said: “It promises to be a fun- packed afternoon not only for those taking part, but also for the family, friends and fans.”
The raffle will be drawn once the matches finish at 4pm.
