One of the key roads in Bolton will be closed overnight on Monday evening.
Engineers from United Utilites will be working at the roundabout where Long Causeway joins the A666 between 6.30pm on Monday and 4am on Tuesday.
Drivers will not be able to get onto the A666 and diversions will be clearly marked.
United Utilities will be making repairs to a disused access chamber for electricity cables. The old chamber has been sinking and damaging the surface of the road.
United Utilities project engineer, Chris Armstrong explained: "We recognise this will be inconvenient but it is essential work to protect public safety.
"The last thing we want is for this chamber to get worse and cause real damage to someone's vehicle.
"We will do everything we can to get the work finished and the road reopened for Tuesday morning."
