David Van Day has infuriated his fellow contestants by refusing to sleep in a cave.
The former Dollar singer and TV presenter Timmy Mallett are the latest famous faces to join ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here’, but there is not enough room for all 12 celebrities to sleep in the camp - meaning two must stay in the creepy grotto.
Timmy immediately volunteered to stay in the new area, but David was less forthcoming.
68-year-old Esther Rantzen immediately volunteered to give up her bed, but the rest of the group quickly voiced their objections, fearing she would slip in the night, and asked David why he would not volunteer.
Furious the newcomer was not even offering to sleep in the cave, Nicola McLean fumed: “Everyone knows where it’s going. Everyone feels that it’s David who should have offered or at least offered an explanation as to why he doesn’t feel like he should go into the cave because as last people in, you two don’t have beds. We’re all sweet. We all have our beds.”
Timmy tried to stick up for David, explaining to the group the singer had an intense fear of the dark.
Later, David revealed a cunning side when he took Timmy aside and said: “I have a plan. I don’t think that those guys have a natural birthright to have those beds. My suggestion is we’ll do it tonight. We’ll tell them it’s for the duration. I ain’t prepared to do it after tomorrow night. If it splits this camp up, so be it.”
He later accused the rest of the group of using bullying tactics to ensure they all kept their beds, prompting furious denials from the others.
