ATHERTON LR will be looking for revenge when Bacup Borough visit Crilly Park for the second time in 11 days.
Borough scored an impressive 3-1 win to knock Rovers out of the Lancashire FA Trophy at the first hurdle, but Dave Hughes’ side bounced back in stunning style with a 6-3 win at St Helens Town to consolidate their position in the top six of the NW Counties Premier Division.
Phil Howard’s four goals at Knowsley Road took him to the top of the Vodkat League goal charts and maintained Rovers’ impressive form over the last two months – a spell in which they have lost just once in 13 league games.
Hughes was without four first team regulars – suspended trio Ross McNair, Lee Skett and Louis Edwards plus regular keeper Paul de Garis, who was unavailable – but the standard of the performance and the ruthless finishing that overpowered the Saints underlined the strength in depth of the Spa Road squad.
Daisy Hill are still in transition under new manager Craig Thomas, but they have good reason to be confident going into their First Division clash with Oldham Town at New Sirs.
Thomas saw his new charges put in a solid performance to hold Oldham to a scoreless draw on their own patch a fortnight ago and will expect them to have a psychological edge going into the return fixture.
The Hill boss had hoped to run the rule over a number of fringe players in midweek, but the Lancashire FA Trophy tie at home Ramsbottom United was postponed for a second time and has been re-arranged for Monday, November 24, kick-off 7.45pm.
Atherton Collieries, who have no game this weekend, will also be hoping to get their twice-postponed Trophy tie at home to Leigh Genesis played on Monday, kick-off 7.45pm.
