A DRIVING instructor is calling on Bolton Council to review “dangerous” junctions.
Rob Whittle, aged 30, has been teaching in Bolton for five years and has seen a number of crashes and near misses at various points across the town.
He said: “There are a few junctions in Bolton which are particularly badly designed, where cars turn right and don’t realise other lanes have the right of way.
“I feel strongly about this because there are too many accidents on the roads as it is, which result in people being injured or killed. Anything we can do to reduce this has to be a good thing.
“These problems are caused by driver error, but the design of the junctions do not help. If drivers are not familiar with the junctions it can be quite dangerous.”
Mr Whittle, of Little Lever, highlighted two of the “danger” junctions.
The first was the crossroads near McDonald’s in Derby Street. He said it was particularly bad, with drivers turning right from University Way and Fletcher Street having to wait in the middle of the road.
He has also suggested that traffic lights could be put at the junction of Weston Street and Nelson Street in the town centre. Mr Whittle gave his views at a meeting with council highways chiefs.
He said there were a number of unmarked crossroads in the town and confusion could be reduced if markings were added.
A council spokesman said: “We met with Mr Whittle and discussed his proposals for road safety measures. We are always willing to listen to suggestions and will look into Mr Whittle’s concerns to see whether it is appropriate to take action.”
