A VIOLENT thug who was wanted by police after failing to report to his bail hostel was arrested in a Bolton pub following a tip-off.

Anthony Thomas Webb, aged 24, was wanted on recall to prison after failing to comply with the terms of his licence, which required him to stay at a bail hostel in Bury.

On Wednesday, police appealed in The Bolton News and on this website for help in tracing him.

And at about 8.30pm last night Webb was arrested in The Castle pub, in Tonge Moor Road, Tonge Moor, after police received an anonymous tip-off from a caller who said had been “bragging” about being in the local newspaper.

Police also received a number of other calls from people who gave them an address for Webb in Tonge Moor.

Webb knocked a 43-year-old man unconscious after hitting him over the head with a chair during a brawl at Yates’s Wine Lodge in Bradshawgate, Bolton, on September 26, 2005.

The victim suffered a head injury that required stitches.

Webb was convicted of wounding on May 5, 2006, and sentenced to five years in prison.

He was released on licence on August 12, 2008.

His licence period was due to run until February 2, 2011.

Webb was expected to return to the bail hostel in Bury on September 28, but failed to show up.

He will now serve the remainder of his jail sentence.
