A CONMAN duped an elderly woman out of £1,000 to clean her driveway.
He targeted an woman, aged 87, in Westhoughton and charged her £640 for a job which would normally cost £100.
He went back to her house in Heatons Grove the following day and demanded a further £400, which she handed over.
But a week later he returned again, asking for more money.
However, the woman had been advised by relatives not to give him any more and she contacted the police.
Trading Standards and police are investigating whether there are any more victims in the area.
The conman spent two hours cleaning the driveway with a hosepipe on October 22.
Insp Mo Razaq, of Bolton West, said: “This is doorstep crime and we take this very seriously. There may be other victims in the area who have not realised they have been conned and have not informed the police.
“He has targeted old and vulnerable people.
“The fact that he kept revisiting the victim and demanding more money makes it even worse.”
A man, aged 19, from St Helens has been arrested in connection with the offence.
The money was recovered and has been returned to the victim.
