BOLTON Golf Club’s Linda Wilson is the new captain of the Lancashire Ladies Golf Association.
The 64-year-old, who has been a member at Bolton for 25 years and previously at Lee Park, Liverpool, has been vice-captain for the last 12 months.
She said the appointment had come as a surprise.
“It is a great honour and when I was first contacted it was a total shock,” said Linda, who takes up her role next week.
A former scratch and handicap team player, she came close to winning the Bolton Championship in 1991 but lost to her friend Doreen Balshaw in the final.
Linda sat on the Lancashire executive from 1981-87 and was county secretary from 1983-87.
She will officially take over at Wellington Park, Leyland, next Wednesday.
