A DOCTOR has been nominated for a leadership award after improving care for patients.
Dr Simon Stacey, a consultant physician at the Royal Bolton Hospital, has been shortlisted by the NHS North West Leadership Academy in the service improvement through leadership category.
He was nominated by the hospital for leading improvements for orthopaedic and other surgical patients.
Dr Stacey worked with colleagues across the organisation to set up a Trauma Stabilisation Unit.
The department gives additional support to high-risk patients, such as older patients with broken hips.
He has also led work to improve the health of patients before surgery, reducing the likelihood of post-operative complications, and worked to make sure patients’ views are listened to.
Ann Schenk, director of service development at the hospital, said: “Simon has been a relentless champion for improvement, showing dogged and imaginative leadership among colleagues and other staff, a powerful force for change.”
The winner of the award will be announced at a ceremony on December 4.
