Ben Sheedy came through his toughest test to date to maintain his progress in the Senior Novices Championships.
The 19-year-old Withins School Club fighter won a points decision over Kirkby’s David Still in their regional showdown in the under-10 fights category at the Dockers Club, Liverpool.
The next stage of his bid for ABA honours will come when he fights for the Northern title at Tyne and Wear on December 7.
Sheedy’s Withins stablemate, Chris Blinkhorn, will fight Zac Davies, the Commonwealth silver medallist and Welsh national champion, at a police boxing show in Woking on Thursday. Team-mates Danny Boswell and Elliott Biggs will also be in action on the Surrey bill.
Blinkorn’s busy fight schedule, which is geared towards possible Olympic selection in 2012, will take him to the Isle of Man next week for a 50kg clash with Ireland’s Paddy Barnes, who won bronze at the Beijing Games.
