A WASTE management company has submitted plans to build a state-of-the-art household waste recycling centre.

Viridor Waste Management Limited wants to build a £2.4 million facility at Hurstwood Court, on the Raikes Lane Industrial Estate in Bolton, for residents to dispose of rubbish for recycling.

The existing tip at Raikes Lane would still be used by Bolton Council bin lorries.

Viridor has been earmarked by the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority to carry out work on its behalf.

Proposals for the plant include containers for cans, glass, paper and other smaller items, as well as large skips for bulky waste.

The design will allow the public to enter the site, drop off light rubbish, and drive up a ramp to unload large items into skips below, and then drive out.

The centre would be open seven days a week, from 8am to 6pm in winter and 8am to 8pm in the summer. There are also plans to transfer 10 members from the current site to the new centre.

Bolton Council’s planning and highways department is due to make a decision on the application by the end of the year.
