A CRACKDOWN has been launched by police to tackle car crime hotspots in Westhoughton.
Over the coming weeks, police will be using a range of tactics, gathering intelligence and targeting known criminals in a bid to curb vehicle thefts and car break-ins.
Operation Ladybarn began on Saturday with increased police patrols, while police community support officers posted leaflets to residents explaining the new initiative and ways in which they could help.
Inspector Mo Razaq said: “We will not tolerate vehicle crime. I want all potential offenders to realise we are watching them and we are going to use all the tools at our disposal to bring them to justice.”
As part of the operation, undercover officers in unmarked police cars will monitor problem areas and gather information at all times of the day and night.
Curfew checks will also be carried out on known troublemakers.
Insp Razaq added: “We will be doing our bit, but I would urge everyone who owns a vehicle to make sure they keep it locked at all times, even if it’s in front their home.
“I would also remind people not to leave valuables on view, particularly satellite navigation systems and even the cradles used to support them on the windscreen. Don’t make it easy for the criminals.”
The operation is expected to continue until December 9.
Anyone with any information about crime can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
