TRAVELLING on public transport will become safer if proposals to invest billions in trains and buses in return for a congestion charge are approved, it is claimed.
Supporters of the Transport Innovation Fund bid say Government cash would be spent on more CCTV and emergency help points and on better lighting at train stations and bus stops.
They say the measures will make using public transport more attractive to people and persuade them to use their cars less.
