Trafford MV 3 Lostock 11: Lostock got their season off to a flying start by knocking Trafford out of the Halbro Plate in a determined display.
It was not until the 35th minute that a breakthrough was made. Alan Wordley passed through all the Trafford backs and found Andy Urmston on the left, who touched down for the opening score.
The second half saw Lostock play some of their best rugby, especially the forwards who looked good in both the loose and scrums.
Lostock stretched their lead to 8-0 with a well taken kick from Stuart Paul, but a procession of penalties led to MV clawing back to 8-3.
However, Lostock were rewarded for their hard work with a penalty a few minutes from time, which Paul converted.
Lostock are at home to Thornton Cleveleys on Saturday, kick off 2.15pm.
