Police are hunting a 24-year-old Bolton man who skipped bail after being jailed for a vicious assault in a town centre pub.

Anthony Thomas Webb is wanted on recall to prison after failing to comply with the terms of his license, which require him to stay at a bail hostel in Bury.

Webb knocked a 43-year-old man unconscious after hitting him over the head with a chair during a fight at Yates on Bradshawgate.

The victim suffered a head injury that required stitches.

He was convicted of wounding on May 5, 2006, and sentenced to five years imprisonment. He was released on license on August 12 this year.

Webb was due to return to a bail hostel in Bury on September 28, but failed to show up.

Police Sergeant Kevin Lister, from the Offender Management Unit, said: "When people are released from prison they are expected to adhere to various conditions.

"Webb has failed to do this and as such will be recalled to prison to serve the remainder of his sentence.

"I would like to stress assisting an offender is a very serious offence so if you know where Webb is please call police before we come knocking on your door.

"I would appeal to anyone who knows of his whereabouts to ring the Bolton Police Offender Management Unit on 0161 856 5535 or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111."
