THE Vulcan bounced back from the previous week’s thrashing by Canary to take a point from high-flying Smokies.
Grimley scored twice for Vulcan, who could have taken all three points in the Premier Division clash with a little luck. Barnes replied with two goals for second-placed Smokies.
Farnworth Canary’s winning roll continued with a 2-0 victory over T&S, Ant Harrison and Coote getting the goals for the top-of-the-league side who extended their record to eight wins out of eight.
Gibraltar Rock stay third after beating fourth-placed Sporting Westhoughton 3-1 which extended the gap between the two to four points.
For the second week running in the First Division, Kieron Seals scored five for Hall i’th’ Wood who stay top, ahead of Sams Bar who hammered Prince Rupert 6-1.
But third-placed Johnson Fold are the team to watch after a 5-0 thrashing of Dukes Gate took their record this season to five wins out of five.
Merehall are level on points with them in fourth, with only one defeat to blot an otherwise blemishless record. Their latest victory was 3-1 over Pied Piper and featured goals from Hulton, Naylor and Leech.
Hulton Lane had a fine 4-1 victory over Burnden Aces, with Gareth Cunniff scoring two.
Ladybridge got their second win of the season, beating Gt Lever Queen Lizzy 6-1 with Burrows scoring twice.
Ben Madden scored a hat-trick in Division Two leaders Stumble Inn’s 7-0 victory over Greenwood. Lyons and Smith shared the other four goals.
Howcroft and Tansey Green both won to keep the pressure on the leaders and Paul Dooley scored twice as Boro put five past Tempest Arms.
Ryan Porter was on target twice in Fire & Ice’s 4-3 win at Yew Tree, while Daisy Hill beat Jolly Ploughman B 4-1 with two each for Jones and Mullet.
