Filming continued as normal on I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! today as deadly storms lashed the east coast of Australia.
One man was swept to his death and more than 230,000 homes and businesses lost power yesterday along a 112-mile stretch of the Queensland coast.
Golf ball sized hailstones and torrential rain pounded the area and winds gusted up to 80mph.
The Australian government has declared Brisbane a natural disaster zone, and promised to make troops available to help with the clear-up.
A 20-year-old man was killed in the city when he was swept away after climbing into a storm drain to photograph the storm.
The celebrities in the camp - around 70 miles from Brisbane - escaped the worst of the storm, but still had to endure heavy rain in addition to all the other perils of the jungle.
A spokeswoman for the show said: “It’s been raining heavily, but no storms or anything life-threatening, nothing dramatic enough to make them up sticks.
”The celebrities are feeling a bit glum about the weather, but it hasn’t affected filming.”
More than 58,000 people were still without power today, and Queensland state premier Anna Bligh said the only comparable weather to hit the region was Cyclone Larry, a 180mph storm which tore through the area two years ago.
