FESTIVE dances are under threat after thieves stole hundreds of pounds worth of music equipment from a community centre.
Thieves targeted the centre in Addington Road, Deane, which only reopened last month, on Sunday, November 9.
The centre, which is owned and run by the William Sutton housing association, had a £60,000 facelift, which included a new entrance and foyer area, and a ramp for disabled residents.
Now volunteers fear planned events may not be able to go ahead because there is no money to replace the stolen equipment.
Volunteer Neil Garrity said: “They have taken the whole music system including an amplifier, speakers and CDs.
“The dance classes for the over-50s are really popular and they have a Christmas and New Year dance which is under threat because I don’t think the equipment can be replaced in time as people don’t have the money at the moment.”
