MANUFACTURERS are being urged to access government funding to help them survive the current economic climate.

The Manufacturing Institute has launched the Business Improvement Techniques (BIT) PLUS programme.

It provides National Vocational Qualifications in lean manufacturing techniques and guided workplace improvement projects, which put theory into practice to raise performance and drive down costs.

Employers can benefit from full or partial funding towards the training under the Train to Gain scheme.

Private companies employing fewer than 250 people can access funding, even where the learner has a previous qualification at that level.

North-west manufacturing small and medium enterprises may also receive further cash help towards project support from the Manufacturing Advisory Service.
