SCHOOLS, offices and shops were transformed into fundraising party places yesterday as people across Bolton showed their support for Children in Need.
Children at Broadoaks Nursery in Farnworth wore their pyjamas all day, as did the youngsters and staff at Baby Bede Private Day Nursery in Morris Green Lane, Bolton.
Baby Bede also sold cakes and played games to raise money.
Staff at Asda in Farnworth went on a pub crawl in pyjamas and also in their nightwear were children at Heathfield Primary School in Henniker Road, Morris Green, those at the Avondale short-break children’s home in Halliwell and St Catherine’s Primary School in Greenstone Avenue, Horwich.
St Catherine’s pupils also sold cakes, while youngsters at St James’ School, Hindley Road, Westhoughton, had a sunshine-themed dress-down day.
Ladybridge Pre-school in Beaumont Drive, Ladybridge, held a fun-day.
Phyllis Templeman, office manager at KBL Solicitors in Mawdsley Street, Bolton, baked a big Pudsey Bear cake, which she sold to raise cash, as well as chocolates and mini cup cakes.
JJB Fitness Club in Bolton held a mammoth three-hour aerobics class.
Children at Green Fold and Cherry Tree Schools in Highfield Road, Farnworth, tucked into a giant Pudsey Bear cake, given to them by Sayer’s bakery.
It was the Green Fold pupils who were the awarded the cake in The Bolton News’ competition, after they had written in to say why they should receive it.
The fundraising youngsters also wore silly socks and wacky wigs, while staff at the NHS Direct call centre in Middlebrook put on a fun-day.
Lucky pupils at George Tomlinson School, Springfield Road, Kearsley, threw sponges at their teachers.
Organiser Georgie Croft, aged 16, said: “I wanted to do this fundraising event to help the two charities, Children in Need and Pendlebury Children’s Hospital.
“We had great fun in organising this event and I think it’s important to give the underprivileged children a better life and to show our support towards these two charities.”
Bolton band, The Furs, played to a crowd of specially invited Children in Need fundraisers at the Chill Factore snow dome in Manchester.
Kwik Fit in Farnworth donated £5 for every tyre fitted yesterday, and will continue to do so over the weekend.
Adventurous nursery nurses Diane Brown and Dana Burns, from Rose Hill Nursery in Manchester Road, Burnden, sat in a paddling pool full of custard.
A full day of events ended last night when the council’s revenue and benefits department held a Strictly Come Dancing event at Bolton Town Hall.
There were also performances from children at the Frances Bleasdale School of Dancing.
