From February next year, employees of Bolton Hospitals Trust will be able to chance their arm on a new private lottery.

Only those members of staff on the payroll where deductions can be taken at source will be able to enter the draw. Contract and bank staff will be exempt.

25 YEARS AGO From the Evening News November 15, 1983 A torchlight procession through the centre of Bolton last night marked the opposition of local CND members to the delivery of the first Cruise missiles to Greenham Common. The procession was headed with a replica coffin.

50 YEARS AGO From the Evening News November 15, 1958 Thousands of football fans were locked out of Burnden Park this afternoon until 2.20 pm., the time when Referee A. W. Luty, of Leeds, finally decided to play the big match with Manchester United. Fog was to blame.

It had persisted all morning in Bolton, practically blotting out Burnden Park before noon, but no decision would be made until the arrival of Mr. Luty at 1.45 pm.

100 YEARS AGO From the Evening News November 16, 1908 One of the most successful congregational gatherings held for many years in connection with St. Paul’s Church, Halliwell, took place on Saturday evening, when the diamond jubilee of the church was celebrated. The rejoicing and thanksgivings lasted over Saturday and Sunday and were well attended and enthusiastic.
