AN A-level student with dreams of working in the media has landed her first role — as her school’s press officer.
Now Roisin Morrison, aged 17, will have to fit in her studies around the job of promoting her school.
Roisin was selected by a panel of teachers after applying for the post of press officer at Canon Slade School.
She was on a shortlist of three after a dozen students from the lower and upper sixth forms applied for the “job”, which the school advertised during assembly.
The interviewing panel were impressed by Roisin’s passion for the school.
Roisin, whose ambition is to work in the media, said: “I am very excited about being appointed as press officer for the school.
“There is a lot going on at Canon Slade which I want the community to know about. The school is known for its good academic record, but it also excels in extra-curricular activities, such as charity work and in the performing arts.”
Roisin will be the first port of call for staff and students wanting to publicise the work they are doing.
“My role will involve writing press releases and articles, as well as taking photographs, to send to local media,” she said. “It is an opportunity for me as I want to work in the media.”
Headteacher Philip Williamson said: “We wanted to offer the role to pupils, particularly as we have a number who want to pursue a career in the media. It will look good on Roisin’s university application form and her CV.”
