Scrooge The Musical, Bolton Premier Productions, Bolton Albert Halls THIS is a traditional Christmas tale that requires little introduction — although the musical version is, perhaps, unfamiliar to most.

You could be forgiven for thinking a singing Scrooge wouldn’t work but it really does and the cast of Bolton Premier Productions put in a faultless performance.

Scrooge The Musical is Leslie Bricusse’s take on the famous novel by Charles Dickens, and brings the story to life in toe-tapping tuneful fashion.

This clever musical adaptation gives us our favourite characters in true Dickensian style, but with the added twist of an extremely powerful score.

Connor O’Beirne was outstanding as Scrooge — he has a cracking voice that was note-perfect — and poor Bob Cratchitt was played by David Glynn-Whitehead in splendid fashion.

Special mentions must also go to Chris Higson as the Ghost of Christmas Present and Josh Taylor, who was perfect as Tiny Tim. Although dark and spooky, the musical is brimming with atmosphere and the show delivers some very clever comic moments that work well.

All cast members were strong and gave powerful performances. Timing was perfect and it was obvious a great deal of hard work had gone into staging this demanding show. Great direction, super sets and elaborate costumes helped create a wonderful night’s entertainment.
