GARY Megson has admitted he is worried about Kevin Nolan’s lack of goals.

And the Wanderers boss has challenged his skipper to start making his own luck.

Nolan has scored just once this season, in the Carling Cup against Northampton Town.

And while Megson highlighted several near misses – most notably from the spot at Newcastle – he is hoping his midfield ace can recapture the kind of form in front of goal which has been his trademark throughout his career.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried,” the Whites boss said. “His general play is really good. But as I said to him at the beginning of the season, there is such a fine dividing line between success and failure.

“He had one kicked off the line against Stoke in the first game of the season, missed a penalty and a good chance against Newcastle and had four excellent efforts go the wrong side of the post against Arsenal.

“If 50 per cent of them went in, we wouldn’t be talking about the fact he isn’t getting enough goals.”

Nolan returns from a one-match suspension for the game against Liverpool on Saturday not certain to regain the midfield berth he last vacated in the win over Manchester City.

Although his form has come under scrutiny in some quarters this season, Megson has backed his captain to come good again.

“I’m sure it gets to him but he is a confident lad and he will deal with it,” he said.

“In the past he has had seasons that have been good for goalscoring followed by one that wasn’t so good and then picked up again, so he is more than capable.”
