HORWICH Harriers ace Katie Ingram won the ladies race in a time of 23mins 11secs in the Mid-Lancashire Cross Country League meeting in Burnley.

Lisa Heyes (26.49), in 13th, and Suzanne Budgett (26.54), in 15th, also performed well to help Horwich take the team prize.

In the men’s race, Gary Priestley (34.41) finished third and first junior man. Gareth Booth (36.30), in 23rd, and first vet Martin Jones (36.55), in 25th, Guy Heyes (37.00), in 26th, Colin Rigby (37.15), in 33rd and Alastair Murray (37.47), in 39th, provided the winning team.

Other good runs came from Steve Nolan in 43rd, Brendan Bolland 46th, Karl Ward 61st, Simon Parkinson 93rd, Tony Hesketh (111th) and first over-60. Colin Wood 172nd and Pete Bland (198) and fourth over-60 completed the Harriers’ turnout.

Jamie Crompton will be hoping for a quick recovery from the injury he sustained when falling awkwardly in his race and injuring his neck and shoulder when he was lying in second place.

In the Derwent Water 10-miler, Russell Maddams was first counter in 56.38 for 10th with Rigby (56.52) in 11th and Bolland (58.27) in 17th place to take second team prize.

The club had a dream start to its inclusion in this year’s league, with both men and ladies teams taking top spot.

Rain, wind and a touch of sleet greeted the six Harriers who turned out in the Roaches Fell Race.

A well marked and marshalled route made the out-and-back course easy to navigate.
