FIREFIGHTERS rescued a dog stranded on a river bank.
Crews from Eccles were called to Leverhulme Park in Long Lane, Darcy Lever, after being contacted by passers-by concerned about the dog at 11am on Wednesday.
They used a floatation device to reach and rescue the young collie.
Watch Commander Terry Hand said: “We don’t know how long the dog had been stranded and he could not get back up the banking.
“But once we managed to reach and rescue him, he just ran off. We spent 10 minutes trying to find him, but I think he just went home.
“He looked like he had been well cared for.”
