SCOTT Quigg believes his latest quickfire success proved he is maturing as a fighter.
The Bury ace stretched his 100 per cent record to 10 wins with a clinical demolition of Sumaila Badu at Wigan’s Robin Park, stopping his opponent inside the first round with a powerful performance.
It was the 20-year-old’s fourth successive win inside two rounds and, coming in front of the Sky TV cameras, raised his national profile.
“I was pleased with the win,” Quigg said.
“He was an awkward fighter and I knew my jab wouldn’t work against him, so I used my head movement and feinted a lot to get inside him and hit him.
“Once I caught him, I knew he was struggling. I have always been a strong puncher, but I am maturing now and hopefully getting even stronger.”
Quigg, who trains at Brian Hughes’ Collyhurst and Moston Lads Club, was on TV for the second time in his brief career, and the former Elton High School pupil relished showing the nation what he could do.
“It’s nice to be on television and the pundits said a few nice things about me,” he said. “But that fight has gone now and means nothing if I get knocked out in my next bout. I can’t let it go to my head.
“I was back in the gym on Monday, even though I was supposed to have a week off. I know I have to keep working hard to get better, because my opponents will naturally improve in quality the more fights I have.”
Quigg expects his next fight to be at Wigan Robin Park on Saturday, December 6.
