BOLTON fell silent to mark the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
Dozens came together to show their respects as a maroon was fired at 11am, to mark the start of a two-minute silence to remember those who lost their lives fighting for their country.
It was attended by the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Anthony Connell, the Mayoress Mrs Maureen Connell, council chief executive Sean Harriss, Bob Longworth from the Royal British Legion and many councillors.
They were joined by the town’s veterans, as well as many shoppers who stopped to pay their respects.
The service was one of many held in towns and cities across the country, including one at the Cenotaph in London, where the three surviving veterans from The Great War took part.
Workers in shops and businesses also marked the two-minute silence at 11am.
