HUNDREDS of people gathered for dinner and dancing to celebrate a Hindu festival in Bolton.
Members of Lancashire’s Tamil community gathered for a Diwali festival celebration at the Veda Mandir Temple in Thomas Holden Street, Bolton, at the weekend.
About 150 guests were entertained with dances and music by youngsters, aged three to 12, as well as adult dancers. They also enjoyed a buffet dinner.
The event was organised by Kamala Velayutham. One of her helpers, Karthick Kanchi Govarthanam, said: “We hold this event every year, just before Diwali.
“Even though it is not Diwali yet, we use it as an excuse for a celebration and way to bring the community together.”
And hundreds of people tucked into traditional Asian food at a Diwali celebration party at Tonge Ward Labour Club, Ainsworth Lane.
It was organised by a large group of friends and families from across Bolton to celebrate the Hindu festival of light.
The event was held to raise money for two charities: Macmillan Cancer Care and the Rotary Eye Hospital in India The Diwali party is now in its sixth year and has raised more than £6,000 since its inception.
This year’s event raised more than £1,000 from raffles and ticket sales.
