After 7 album releases between 1969 and 1973, The John Dummer Blues Band recorded one last album to try and achieve the recognition they so deserved.

The album was never released – until now.

The line-up of the band has a fair pedigree. John himself had been around for ages in various blues bands before starting his own, and it is he who provides the percussion on this album. He is joined on drums for by Pick Withers, who would later be an integral part of Dire Straits.

John would later join the Doo-Wop revivalists Darts.

Also on the album Is Dave Kelly (The Blues Band), Colin Earl (Mungo Jerry, Foghat), and for rock historians there is the last known recordings from legendary 60’s bluesman Graham Bond.

The album is your typical late 60’s/early 70’s blues set. Sadly, though, this music was falling from grace with the record buying public in favour of progressive rock, glam rock and others.

Which is a shame because this album has a lot going for it.

Tracks like ‘LA Lady’ and ‘Undying Love’ show off this band at the height of its’ powers.

‘Reach For Me’ and ‘Keep It In My Mind’ are also as good as it gets and this album should have been a massive hit.

However, the record company didn’t seem interested and Colin Earl was sent off to America to try and get a deal over there.

Sadly, the deal never came off and when Colin returned, the band had broken up.

The tapes remained in Colin’s archives until now and the album has at last had the release it surely deserved.

Angel Air.
